The development of live streaming technology has been advancing rapidly, extending its applications to various industries, including live commerce, sports competitions, performances, and online education. Many celebrities and key opinion leaders (KOLs) also interact with their fans through live streaming, becoming a new form of promotion.
In response to this development, the market size of live streaming has been continuously expanding. According to research reports, the global live streaming market reached $980 million last year, with the Asia-Pacific region having the highest market share, driven by the increasing demand for live gaming in China and India. The report further predicts that the global live streaming market will grow to $4.29 billion by 2028.
As the demand for live streaming increases, users' expectations for platforms have also risen. Apart from stable transmission, users also desire more additional features to enrich their entertainment or shopping experiences, including convenient operations for hosts and enhanced interaction between hosts and viewers.
I have learned that graduates of the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education's Advanced Diploma in Artificial Intelligence and Mobile Software Development program have integrated their knowledge to develop a live streaming application called Streaming Hub, which enhances the live streaming experience. With just simple gestures, live stream hosts can remotely control their live broadcasts and switch scenes. The application also incorporates augmented reality (AR) elements, allowing viewers to virtually place products in their actual environments. They recently received an Excellence Award at the 21st Asia Pacific Information and Communications Technology Awards and are actively utilizing a HKD 100,000 seed fund provided by the Science Park to venture into the live streaming business.
